The Gospel — How Do I Receive Salvation?

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth and placed all the animals, along with Adam and Eve—the first humans—on it. He didn’t make Adam and Eve into robots, but intelligent beings with a mind, a conscience, and the ability to choose. He loves us, and preprogramming us to love Him would not be love at all.
Adam chose to sin, and because of this, death entered the world. Now, all who are born after Adam—which is all of humanity—are born into sin. Not only are we born into sin, but we all also commit sin. If you have ever told a lie, stolen, cheated, lusted, or used God’s name in vain (as a curse word), then you have sinned—just like the rest of us.
Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” And just like breaking laws on earth comes with consequences, breaking God’s laws has a penalty as well. That penalty is serious, because God is holy, perfect, and eternal.
When we sin against Him, the punishment is also eternal. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death.” If we die in our sins, we will face eternal separation from God in a very real place called hell—a place of suffering where, as Jesus said in Mark 9:48, “where their worm does not die, and the fire is not extinguished.”
There is no merit or good deed that we can do to pay that debt. We cannot save ourselves.
This is what makes Christianity different from every religion out there. Every other religion says: Do this. Follow these rules. Be good enough, and maybe you’ll be accepted in the end. But the gospel says: Come just as you are. The price is already paid. Salvation is a gift—not something you earn. Jesus isn’t handing you a list of rules hoping you can check every box. He’s offering you forgiveness now—up front. And then, He walks with you and changes you from the inside out.
Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” You don’t have to be perfect. But you do have to say yes to the invitation. You have to come. You have to admit your need and trust the only One who can save you.
The word “gospel” means “good news,” and here is the greatest news you will ever hear: God has made a way for sinners like us to be saved and have eternal life with Him.
No amount of good works can save us. Isaiah 64:6 says, “For all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment.”
God’s Law was not given to save us but to show us how far short we fall. Galatians 3:24 says, “Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.”The Law is like a mirror that shows us our need for a Savior, but the mirror cannot clean us up—it points us to Jesus.
Here is the good news: God loves us so much that He made a way for us to be saved. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.”
God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to rescue us. Jesus—who is both fully God and fully man—lived a perfect, sinless life, the life we could never live. Then, He willingly gave His life on the cross, taking the punishment we deserve.
Romans 5:8 says again, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead, proving that He is who He said He is—God in human flesh and the only way to be saved. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.”
So how can you be saved? In Mark 1:15, Jesus said, “Repent and believe the gospel.”Repentance means turning from how you see sin to how God sees it. You realize that sin is rebellion against a holy God, worthy of eternal punishment, and you admit that you cannot save yourself. Acts 3:19 says, “Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.”
Believing the gospel means placing your full trust in Jesus for salvation—believing that His death on the cross paid the full price for your sins, and that He rose again to give you eternal life.
Romans 10:9 says,
“That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”
So, if you are ready to turn from your sins and trust in Jesus, you can do that right now. Say this simple prayer:
“Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and that my sins are an offense against You. I turn from my sins and trust in You as my Savior. I believe You died for me and rose again to give me new life. I conf ess You as my Lord. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”
