Lessons from Peter's Journey
Despite giving the wrong response in Matthew 17:4-5, trying to rebuke Jesus in Matthew 16:22-23, a failed violent revolution attempt in John 18:10-11, doubting and sinking in the sea in Matthew 14:30, and failing to prove his loyalty to Jesus in Matthew 26:70-75, Peter kept showing up.
And we see in John chapter 21, after Jesus' resurrection, Peter did not avoid Him because of his past failures.
Instead, he eagerly swam to Jesus when He appeared to the disciples on the sea of Galilee.
Peter's persistence and unwavering commitment are evident in his actions.
He did not let his mistakes define him.
Importance of Persistence
On of the biggest setbacks we can face spiritually is making mistakes and then giving up.
But even if we do not realize it, our faith grows as we persist in listening to the word of God.
"Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." - Romans 10:17
So, keep showing up to church, Bible study, and in your relationships with other Christians.
Confess any sin to God who is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9), and continue moving forward!
Strength in Community
The devil is depicted as a roaring lion in 1 Peter 5:8.
With the analogy of a hungry lion in mind, the devil seeks to isolate and devour, but when we stand together, we become a formidable force against temptation and doubt.
By showing up consistently, we not only grow individually but also find strength in the community of Christians.
Together, we can withstand spiritual challenges and support one another.
We Are All in This Together
We all mess up. So, let's continue to show up because without Jesus, there is no path forward.
May the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you.
